Which funding route fits you?
Six quick questions. Mr weighs them up and tells you the funding route worth talking about, plus which side of the Tasman to start on.
How Mr picks a route
Business funding on both sides of the Tasman comes down to two big families. Property-secured loans, from $20,000 to $5,000,000, use residential or commercial property through a first mortgage, a second mortgage or caveat-style security. Unsecured and cash-flow funding, typically $5,000 to $500,000, is sized on the business's turnover and bank statements. The quiz looks at which family suits your answers.
Property tends to win when the amount is large, the business is young, or the credit or tax history is bumpy, because the security does more of the work. Unsecured tends to suit established trading businesses that need a smaller amount and have steady bank statements. When neither fits yet, Mr will tell you what to build first.
Why the country matters
Lenders generally lend to businesses in their own country and take security they can register locally. So Mr's rule is simple: if you're using property, start where the property is; otherwise start where the borrowing business trades and banks. Our page on where to apply when you trade in both covers the trickier combinations.
What happens next
The quiz is a nudge, not a decision. Tap your country to start a 60-second enquiry on that site. There's no credit check when you first enquire, your details aren't passed around a crowd of lenders, and a real person looks at your situation. Please answer the form accurately; it's the fastest way to the right option. Still deciding? Compare the two country sites first or ask Mr a specific question.
Frequently asked questions
What does the quiz tell me?
It suggests the funding route most worth discussing for your situation (property-secured, unsecured cash-flow, or getting ready first) and which country site to start your enquiry on. It's a starting point, not an approval.
Does the quiz check my credit?
No. Nothing you choose is sent anywhere. The quiz runs in your browser, and even the enquiry on your country site doesn't involve a credit check when you first enquire.
What if I trade in both Australia and New Zealand?
Mr follows two rules: start where any property security is, otherwise start where the borrowing business trades and banks. The quiz applies those rules for you.
Why doesn't the quiz show interest rates?
Because every business loan is priced on the business's own circumstances. A generic rate would only mislead you. A real person on your country's site can talk you through the actual costs.
Ready to see what's possible?
Choose your side of the Tasman. A short enquiry on that country's site, no credit check when you first ask, and a real person who calls you back.
